Keep Eyeshadow in Place for Hours

I hate the way eyeshadow wears out by the end of the day, all of it sliding into the crease of the eye leaving you looking like you've taken to lining the middle of your lid with goop. I figured there wasn't much you could do about it until I went to the Sleek counter and had a makeover a couple days ago.

The Primer pearlized texture stays put all day and into the night and I'm convinced it wouldn't leave your lid for weeks if you didn't take makeup remover to it. You spread it on your lid then top it with your eyeshadow and Voila! your good to go for days.

Friday

Got a hot date on Friday with the guy of your dreams? Choose one facial feature to highlight, like your eyes. Apply a shimmery, neutral shadow across your entire eyelid, right up to your brow bone. Then, choose a darker shade to apply in the crease, making a V-shape at the outer corner of your eye with your brush. Apply some liner, mascara, and gloss and by the end of the night, you might not be a single ladyany more!

Thursday

Hanging out with your fiancé/husband but worried about the bends in your hair from wearing a ponytail all day? Don't stress! Let your hair down and give yourself in instant makeover by pulling on a knit cap over your less-than-styled strands. If you don't have time for a makeup touch-up, just press a few blotting papers against your T-zone to get rid of any shine that's built up throughout the day. Everyone will think you ran home to get ready, when really you switched up your look in two seconds!

Wednesday

Shopping with your girlfriends calls for a fun vibe, so channel Beyoncé and let your hair down in loose, beachy waves and apply a shimmery blush to your cheekbones and a dab of clear gloss. Sunglasses will definitely work in this situation as well.

Tuesday

Beyoncé simple look is perfect for your after work outings. There's no need to go overboard on the makeup — a light pink lipstick looks great against natural skin. Just add some mascara and brush your eyebrows upwards so your arch is more defined. You can also control those random frizzies with a shine serum or balm. Finish your look with a few accessories like some long necklaces and of course, a ring ("cause if you like it then you better put a ring on it!").

How To Make Homemade Lip Gloss

It's easy to get carried away buying lip gloss, but did you know you can make your own with the ingredients you probably already have on hand? Follow these directions to make custom homemade lip gloss.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes

What You Need

  • Petroleum Jelly
  • Blush
  • Small mixing bowl
  • A spatula is desired, but you can use a spoon if you don't have one
  • mica shimmer powder (if desired)
  • essential oils (if desired)

Here's How:

  1. Gather your ingredients and head to a well lit area, preferably with direct sunlight.
  2. Put approximately a teaspoon of petroleum jelly into a small bowl.
  3. Mix some blush into the petroleum jelly. You can use any kind of blush, including cream, mineral or powder. You can apply as little or as much color as you'd like depending on the look you're going for.
  4. If you'd like to add shimmer, try adding in a hint of mineral eyeshadow with mica shimmer powder. (A little goes a long way!)
  5. If you'd like to flavor your lip balm, add in a drop of essential oil such as citrus or peppermint.
  6. Mix these ingredients together until well blended and then store in a small tub. An old lip balm container is a great place to store it.

Tips:

  1. Instead of blush, consider using a bit of lipstick. This is a great way to use up the very last bit of lipstick in the tube.
  2. Instead of mixing an entire tub worth, try just making enough for one use and using the blush you're wearing that day.
  3. Try saving the your used mineral eye shadow tubs when their empty. These make excellent lip balm containers.
  4. Get creative! Mix and match colors each time until you find your favorite.

Shimmer Makeup and Skin Tone

Adding Shimmer to Your Evening Look

A shimmery eyeshadow is all you need for this understated yet beautiful evening look.

Adding shimmer to makeup is like adding jewelry to a pretty cocktail dress. It can make your makeup look more festive for parties, special occasions and elegant evening events.
Less is more with shimmer and sparkles, so first decide which areas you want to accentuate—eyes, cheeks or lips. You don’t want to use it all over the face. Don't add shimmer to any place you wouldn't want to draw attention to. The idea is to place the spotlight on a specific area that you intend to be the focal point.
What Type of Shimmer Should You Use?
  • Use a shimmer lotion if you want just a touch of shimmer.
  • A shimmer cream will give you more of a medium coverage.
  • Use shimmer powder if you want more coverage and more noticeable sparkle.
If you have oily skin, make sure that you use a shimmer product with a crease-free formula so that it will not cake or crease.

Glitter Vs Shimmer
Unless you're going to a Halloween party or will be onstage, it's best to use a light touch with glitter.

Mixing a little glitter or shimmer to lotion can look great in moderation, but you don’t want too much shimmer or glitter on the face. Glitter gels and powders can sometimes be a bit much. It’s better for younger skin and should be used sparingly. You usually see more glitter at Halloween parties—so you get the idea.
If you do use glitter, use it in one place, like the corner of the eyes or a little on the cheeks. If it is used for the eyes, make sure that it's not too close to the eyes and that it is made for use on the eye area and won't cause an allergic reaction. Don't use glitter near the eyes if you will be wearing contact lenses.
Another solution is to wear a glittery nail polish or touch up your favorite shade by applying glitter on top.

Does Skin Tone Matter?

These days you can find shimmer products that have much better formulations than in the past. Instead of color being the key, it’s really the intensity of pigment. Fair and light skin tones usually look better in softer, lighter shimmers. Intense, vibrant colors are better for deep skin tones because they need more pigment to actually show up on the skin, like golds, bronze and purples.
Because of variations in our skin tones, the choice of shimmer shades for the face is individual and depends on the makeup brand that is used. It comes down to experimentation.
In general some colors have been known to look better on certain skin tones:
Fair/Light - soft pink, soft lilac, sky blue, icy blue and silvers.
Light – Tan - light golden/light yellowish greens for the eyes.
Olive/Medium – rose, brownish-pink, pale or pinkish-gold, light shimmery bronze, sapphire blue, plums.
Medium - Dark – deep lilac, purple (for the eyes) copper and bronze.

Tips For Adding Shimmer:

This golden yellow shadow looks great on light brown to olive skin tones. Finish with a lip-gloss and keep the face nude.
An easy way to add subtle shimmer is to mix a luminizing highlighting fluid with your foundation for an all over glow. Some luminizers are designed to be used under foundation to give skin radiance.
A shimmer lotion can also be used under foundation or mixed with foundation. Use in a gold shade if you have a warm undertones and icy or silver shade if you have a cool undertone (and light skin).
You can also dust a powder highlighter to add contour to the bridge of the nose, under the brow bone and over the cheekbones.
Mix shimmer powder with your favorite lipstick.
Add shimmer to collarbone, shoulders and décolletage.
Use a bronzer for a natural glow or to contour the cheeks for more depth. For light to medium tones try light golden shades like a peachy gold or golden pinks. Bronze and copper complement dark tones.

Shimmer Shades & Eye Color

Here is a golden bronze eye shadow look that is stunning on this Latina model.
Eye Color
Eye color is something to consider when using shimmer eye shadows. Brown eyes are the easiest to match because they are complimented by most shades, especially blues, plums, greens, grays, and vibrant colors. Green/hazel eyes look great in pinkish browns, plums, lilacs and other reddish tones. Blue eyes look best in orange tones like browns, camel, apricot, and golds.
Using a highlighting shade (the lightest shade) just under the brow bone and in the inner corners of the eyes opens up the eye area, making the eyes look brighter.
Brush a shimmery shadow along the upper and lower lid lines with a flat eyeliner brush and use darker tones for definition.

Skin Tone & Eye Shimmer

Medium to dark tones can use a deep lilac color on the lids, with a lighter shimmery shade by the brow.

So many factors can come into play when it comes to shimmery eye shadows, from skin tone, hair color and highlights to clothing and personal taste. In general lighter shimmers look better on lighter skin tones and darker shades on darker skin tones. Also take into consideration your skin's undertones. Silver looks better on lighter skin with cool undertones and deep gold looks great on dark skin with warm undertones. If you have a warm skin tone you'll look better in warmer shades (warm reddish pinks, warmer golds) and cool undertones look better in cooler shades (cooler pinks, blues, greens).
Light to medium - soft lavenders, pinks, greens, blues, champagnes, light golden peach.
Tan - shimmery pale shades, pale gold, lilac and light green.
Olive - can go a little deeper in color, deeper blues, lavender, coppery peach, copper.
Dark skin – can use more vivid, deeper color--gold, bronze, purple, greens, blues.

Finishing Touches: Shimmery Lips

Deep skin tones can use a golden brown lipstick and then apply a gloss with specks of glitter and shimmer.

Avoid using shimmer on both the eyes and the lips. If you are not playing up the eyes, you can concentrate on the lips instead. Use a shimmery gloss or add shimmer to a gloss or lipstick.

How to Create Romantic, Kissable Lips For New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day and Other Romantic Occasions

Whether you’re about to have a romantic evening out, ending (or beginning) with that special New Year’s Eve kiss, or will be enjoying a Valentine’s Day dinner, a special date or occasion, your elegant, classic or sultry makeup look is incomplete without stunning, kissable lips.

Start With Soft & Smooth Lips
Exfoliate dry lips. Coat the lips with Vaseline Petroleum Jelly or lip balm and slough off dry skin with a soft toothbrush or damp washcloth, using gentle, circular motions.
Or
Mix a little olive oil and (white or brown) sugar into a paste and gently scrub lips with a circular motion using a soft toothbrush or damp washcloth.
Rinse off lips and apply lip balm or lip conditioner.

How to Apply Lip Color
Before applying color, coat the lips with lip balm or lip conditioner. Blot any excess with tissue.

To Prevent Bleeding
Dip a cotton swab in translucent powder and roll outside lip line before adding color. (Some people prefer to do this after applying color.)
Line and fill lips with a matte nude shade or a shade close to the lipstick color you will be wearing, keeping to the natural lip line.
Another method is to outline with concealer which also keeps the lips from smudging or lipstick from setting into lines around the mouth and looks less harsh than a lip pencil.

To Prevent Fading
Fill in entire lip area with lip pencil, using the side of the pencil (not the tip) using gentle strokes. Or pat on a lip stain with the pad of the ring finger. Clean around edges with concealer.
Use a lip pencil to fill in color on the lips, just inside the edge of line so you can keep the defined lip line intact. Start at the center of the upper lip and draw a line down first one side and then other side of the Cupid’s bow) to each outer corner and following along the natural lip line to finish the lower lip.
Blot with tissue. Put on a little loose powder over the first coat and then reapply lip color. Softy brush loose powder to outside edge of lips around lips.

Lip Gloss Tips
If you plan to use gloss, apply two or three coats of a deep shade and leave on for a few minutes. Blot with tissue and then apply lip gloss. This will help gloss last longer. You can also use a lip stain first and then apply gloss, but lip stains tend to make lips dry.
If wearing regular lipstick, add a touch of gloss over bottom lip.
Use a metallic lip-gloss in the center of lips.
Older women look better in subtler, opaque gloss with a dewy finish instead of the super-shiny gloss and glazes.

Bold Lips
There’s something about red lipstick that just dresses up the face. A matte red always gives the look of elegance and sophistication, but if you have dry lips you might want to use a creamy formula instead.
Avoid using high-shine gloss or lipsticks when opting for bold lip colors.
Keep eyes minimal with soft eye shadow shades, black eyeliner and a coat of mascara.
For Asian or small eyes, define eyes with soft black or brown liner.
Use a little bit of shimmer in the inner corner of the eyes, and if you want, use a shimmery liner very close to lower and upper lashes.
Use a very light or nude shade of blush.

Uneven Lip Color
If you tend to have discolored lips, dab foundation on the lips, blot and then apply lipstick.
Dry Lips
If you tend to have dry lips, you will want to avoid matte lipsticks, which tend to be dry and opt for a creamy formula or gloss. They don’t last as long, but won’t dry out lips.
If you try a long wearing lipstick make sure that it has a moisturizing formula since these lipsticks also tend to dry out the lips.
If lips are very dry and chapped, avoid shiny or very dark lipsticks, as this will emphasize the dryness. Use a gloss or creamy lipstick and chose lighter colors (soft roses, golden peach—according to skin tone).

How to Get Rid of Scaly Lips

If you suffer from scaly lips, a simple do-it-yourself trick to exfoliate them takes only a finger scoop of Vaseline and a toothbrush.
Step 1: Slather lips with petroleum jelly
Step 2: Use a toothbrush to massage in the jelly in a circular motion.
Step 3: Wipe off the excess petroleum jelly.
The toothbrush exfoliates lips while the petroleum jelly leaves lips extra soft. Repeat a couple times a day until your lips are no longer scaly.

"TRANSFORMERS" CORNER

BEFORE
AFTER
Amazing isn't it? lol...

Smokieeee...

Smokey eyes have been a big style for quite awhile and there's no sign this particular trend is dying. Here we show you step-by-step instructions on how to get the perfect smokey eye.

The key to the perfect smokey eye is proper blending. You want to make sure colors are blended together flawlessly. Also, it's important to pair light base colors with rich dark colors. Nice mixes include: Soft gold base with deep purple on top, champagne base with bright blue and peach base with green hue.

Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

Prep the lid. The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to kept eyelids oil-free. To do this start with an eyeshadow base (also called "primer"). Simply swipe the primer across the eye and let it dry before you continue to the next step.
Apply eyeliner. If you're going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. If you're opting for a jewel-toned eye (violet makes a gorgeous smokey eye), line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green liner.

Blend in color on bottom lashes For color on the bottom (a key smokey eye look) you'll want to use a eyeliner pencil because they're easiest to smudge. Once the line is drawn, run your finger over it to smudge the line. You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect.

Apply light base color Again, the key to a smokey eye is pairing a lighter base with the darker hue. I prefer a nice cream shade for my base. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone.

Blend in darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. Now that you have the base and eyeliner on, it's time to get the smokey effect. You need a darker eyeshadow shade. Using an  eyeshadow brush blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop deep color at crease. The key here is to blend, blend, blend.

Doublecheck your work Make sure eyes match and blend color with a Q-tip if need be.

Finish with several coats of mascara. You'll want to apply a few coats of mascara so lashes are thick and dark. If you don't have naturally long, curled lashes, curl them with a lash curler first.

Tips:

  1. Remember to keep lips nude. When applying strong makeup (like smokey eyes or red lips) put the focus on either eyes or lips, never both. (Think Angelina Jolie: She either plays up her huge eyes or her huge lips, never both. If she did, she'd look like a clown).
  2. For a bit of fun, try a blue or purple mascara. It will make blue eyes "pop."
  3. Liner doesn't have to come in pencil form. Makeup experts know eyeshadows make some of the best eyeliners. To do this take an eyeliner brush, wet it, then dab wet brush into the dark shadow. This allows for a deep, precise line. You can also use the dark shadows without wetting brush first. Either way, eyeliner is necessary for smoky eye.

What You Need

  • Eye primer (you don't need it, but it's great for keeping shadow in place)
  • 2 Shadows: One light, one darker
  • Eyeliner
  • Makeup brushes
  • Mascara

EYE SHADOW TIPS

Ahhhh, eyeshadow. I'm a beauty editor and yet it took me years to figure out how to apply eyeshadow that:

1. Wasn't crooked (hello, mismatched eyes!).
2. Wasn't too dark or blotchily blended (yes, I know "blotchily" is not a word).
3. Didn't extend to the wrong, wrong, wrong upper reaches of my eyelids.

After years of seeing makeup artists in action and learning numerous eyeshadow tips and tricks, here are 10 favorite eyeshadow tips I wish someone had told me long time ago:

Secret #1: Blending is key

Ok, well I sorta knew this, but I wasn't sure HOW TO BLEND. You use three different colors: The base, usually a very light taupe, a highlighter for the crease and a main color for the lid, but how to get them to look as if they merge into each other like the colors of a rainbow? My secret: Start light then go darker. Brush the base color to the entire eye up to the brow bone (base is the lightest color), apply the lid color (the medium color) and THEN apply the highlighter (the darkest color). Also, don't be too heavy-handed or you'll have to start over.
Extra tip: Practice makes perfect. Play with your makeup a few days before a big event.

Secret #2: Choose shadows that make the color of your eyes pop

Gone are the days when beauty experts advised against blue shadow. Matching the color of your eye with a shadow actually brings the color out (think blue shadow on blue eyes). At the same time, contrasting colors make eyes pop too (think a deep jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes or gorgeous golds with blue eyes).

Secret #3: Never apply deep color to your browbone -- unless you're doing a cover shoot for Vogue

You don't want the drama too much shadow brings. Apply shadow up to the browbone but don't apply shadow ON the bone unless it's a neutral color.

Secret #4: Highlighter can make or break your look

When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge. Get to close to the eye and you'll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.

Secret #5: Set shadow with a great base

Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I've found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base, or primer.

Secret #6: Shimmer is hot, but shows off wrinkles

Shimmer makes eyes really pop, but it also highlights heavy lids, lines and wrinkles. If you don't have wrinkled eyelids yet try this great look for shimmer: create a "nude" lid, but apply a bit of gold shimmer to the browbone. Gorgeous!

Secret #7: Smokey is great, but keep it to the lid

Making up a smokey eye? Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline. Don't extend color above the crease.

Secret #8: You should splurge on a good eyeshadow

A great eyeshadow like the Sleek pallets, would do the trick.

Secret #9: Make eyes brighter with white

A dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of the eye near the tear duct will make eyes look brighter. You won't believe how eye-opening this is. It works so great, I use this trick even when doing my makeup for work.

Secret #10: Go for color

Consider mixing shades if you bought a color that's just too bold for you. Mixing an electric blue with taupe can turn out the most perfect color.

How to makeup for church...

Its another Sunday and a lot of ladies take extra hours on their makeup in the morning thereby causing a lot of husbands groaning in the car while waiting for them. Question is: is all that time wasting really necessary?

I have a couple of tips that could help save time and save our men the trouble.

Well, people at church really shouldn't judge you by your make up, but probably something light and soft. Light eyeshadow, (light pinks or blues), with a little mascara. (eyeliner if you want, just not too much) a light pink lip gloss, or clear lip gloss. Maybe a nude lipstick would be good too! Just remember to keep is simple, besides, its Church!

Makeup Tips: Lips

So you weren't born with Angelina Jolie lips. Neither was I, but I can show you how to make your lips appear plumper (perhaps not THAT plump) with these makeup tips.

How to apply false lashes yourself!!!

False eyelashes have come a long way since the seventies when women wore huge, gaudy varieties that looked fake. These days many women wear them to enhance their eyes, whether they're celebs on the red carpet or women going about their everyday business. Here's how to apply false eyelashes so they look as natural as possible.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

  1. You have several options when it comes to false lashes: A full set of false lashes or small clusters of individual lashes. If you buy a full set you can cut them into individual lashes.
  2. If the lashes you bought are too long, you can trim them by cutting them at an angle. Make sure to cut each individual lash at a different length so they look more natural. Always reserve the longest clusters for the outside corners of your eyes.
  3. To prep for the application, make sure your eyelid and lashes are clean of any makeup. Curl your real lashes with an eyelash curler. You can warm the curler under a blow dryer for about 3 seconds. Just make sure the metal isn't too hot for your eye.
  4. Apply a liquid liner to eyes to conceal the lash roots.
  5. If you are applying individual lashes, put a few drops of lash glue on a hard surface. Let it dry for a minute until it becomes tacky. Use a set of tweezers to pick up eyelashes and dip the root in the adhesive. If you are using a full set, apply a thin strip of glue along the base of the lashes using a toothpick or a super fine makeup brush. Avoid applying the glue with your fingers because it gets messy fast. Wait a few seconds for the glue to dry a bit.
  6. If applying individual lashes, start at the outer corner of the eyes. Take the tweezers and wedge the glued lash into your natural lashes. Hold it in place for a few seconds so it dries in place. Stay as close to the root of your real lashes as possible. You'll want a couple clusters at the outer corner of the eye and one in the center of the eye or wherever your real lashes are sparse. Make sure to leave a natural space between lashes. The secret is to keep the clusters to five or fewer and stay away from the inside of the eye.
  7. If applying a strip, use your fingers to hold the lashes and apply on the lid as close to the roots as possible from the outer corner of the eye in. If you notice the lashes are too long, take them off and trim them.
  8. Use a Q-tip to press lashes in place.

Q-TIP

9. Once the false eyelashes are applied, let them dry for a couple minutes. Now you can do your eye makeup. You can create a cat eye by lining the upper lashes with a black liquid liner, drawing a wing at the outer corner of the eye and then working back from the outside in. For a less dramatic look, apply a dark eyeshadow along the upper lash line. This camouflages the false lashes.

10.Apply mascara to lashes to blend them in with your real ones.

Makeup Tips: Eyebrows

When a woman has perfectly shaped brows, she can look put together even without a drop of makeup. This is why brow-shaping should be the one weekly beauty regimen you should never skip.

How to apply the eyeliner...

Eyeliner is one of the most important cosmetics and can give you a dramatic look without much time or effort. Whether you choose a soft line or a dramatic stroke, you can embellish the windows to your soul by spending just a few minutes in front of a mirror with an eyeliner pencil.
STEPS:

Choose an eyeliner that is appropriate for your eye color. Browns, gilded bronzes, and plums are great for lighter eyes, and darker eyes can pull off a more dramatic black backdrop. Forest greens can make brown eyes pop. Silvers and charcoals look best on green and blue eyes; rich red browns for green eyes and golds for blue eyes.

Note: Red tints make eyes look redder and blues make them whiter. Make sure your liner complements the color of your shadow.

Consider the type of look you're trying to achieve. Pencil eyeliners will give your eyes soft definition, while liquid versions offer precision and drama. There is a wide variety of powder liners available, and you can also moisten dark eyeshadow and apply it with a small, flat brush to double as liner.

Preparation

Make sure everything you need is handy (and ready to go) before you start.
  • If you are using a pencil, sharpen it (see Warnings). Warm and soften the very tip of the pencil by heating it with a hot zap from a hair dryer. This will help it write smoother.
  • A liquid liner should be checked for clumps or excess.
  • Assemble your smudging pencil and/or brushes in a convenient spot.
  • Prepare a cake (powder) liner or a dark eye shadow by applying a small amount of water (usually one or two drops) to your brush. Move the wet brush gently through your cake liner or dark shadow, holding the brush or pencil as you would hold a pen.
Applying the Eyeliner

  • Rest the elbow of your dominant arm on a hard surface, and rest your wrist on your face.
  • Tilt your head back slightly and bring your eyes to a half-open state. This creates a good angle for application, while allowing you to see what you're doing.
  • Use your left index finger (if you are right handed) or your right index finger (if you are left handed) and pull your eyelid gently to the side and slightly up, toward the far end of your eyebrow. This step is optional, because some people find it easier to draw accurately on a relaxed eye; also, stretching the eye may encourage wrinkling. Try both ways to see what is best for you. To prevent the eyelid from shaking if you do not pull it, focus gently but intently on your eyes in the mirror. If you are applying eyeliner to someone else's eyes, ask them to choose one spot on the wall to look at. Keep your arm steady.
  • Draw a line across the upper lid on the lash line (as close to your lashes as possible while still on the lid). This creates the desired illusion of having thicker lashes.
  • If you're using liquid liner, allow it to dry before opening your eyes all the way, or the color may transfer into the crease of your eye.
  • Soften the look by gently smudging the line with your brush, a cotton swab or your finger. If you desire a crisp, straight line, as is the case with liquid eyeliner, do not alter unless it's messy. Any cleaning touch ups should be done with a cotton swab dipped in eye makeup remover.
  • Remember that there are many variations on eyeliner looks . If this is your first time, you might want to start with a smudged eyeliner look
  • Line the lower lids . Trace the outside of your eye (close to the lower lashes). Moving from the outside edge inward, draw a line lightly, but don't go for perfection, you can go back over the faint line and darken after the stroke. Your line should be slightly thicker at the outside corner, becoming thinner as it moves in toward your nose. Follow the shape of your eye. It looks more natural.
  • For a natural look, apply brown or black/brown eyeliner to 1/3 of your top lash line, and 2/3 of your bottom lash line. Blend the line with a cotton swab.
  • If you want a dramatic look, try double winging your liner. Or try a thicker line. Try different styles and find your favorite. But a classic line always works great.

Things You'll Need

  • Eyeliner
  • Cotton swabs
  • Makeup remover
  • Soft shadow brush
  • Makeup remover wipes
  • Eyeliner brush (if using gel eyeliner)

MAKEUP TIPS AND TRICKS...

Our best makeup tips in one spot. Once you learn the basics, applying makeup isn't as daunting as it seems when you're standing in the midst of a makeup aisle. There are many tried-and-true tips and tricks that the experts know and we're sharing with you. Get these basics down, and you'll perfect a daytime and nighttime look.

  HOW TO PROPERLY APPLY MASCARA

Ace your mascara application with a 3-step process:
Step 1: Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes. It's the mascara placed near the roots -- not the tips -- that gives the illusion of length.

Step 2: Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go. The wiggling part is key because it separates lashes.

Step 3: In this final step (which I always skip), close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps.

Basic Steps to Applying YOUR Make-Up

Step 1: Clean Face; ALWAYS start with having a clean face. It is important that your skin is clean to prevent breakouts, clogged pores, rashes, or any other allergic reactions. This way you can start off with a clean slate. Or as I like to call it...a clean "Canvas"
Step 2: Moisturizer; Make sure you start off with having a good moisturizer. This way you can prevent any flakes from having dry skin, as well as protect your skin if your moisturizer includes a sunblock. If you want to make sure your moisturizer is being applied correctly or all over you can use a specific foundation brush to make sure you don't miss a spot.
Step 3: Foundation, Concealer, Pressed Powder; Now these steps will not apply to everyone. Especially if you are between the ages of 11-15 your skin may not need a foundation. However, even those with clear skin will apply a foundation in order to have an even skin tone and have that flawless look. It is important when choosing a foundation that you choose the color that will not make your skin look lighter then what it is. A good way to test foundation is to do a swatch on the outside of your hand. Rub it in, and this will show you if your foundation is the right color or not by how it blends out. As for Concealer make sure it is one shade lighter then your foundation, in order to apply under your eyes for dark circles or any blemishes.
DIRECTIONS: Primer - (if you choose not to use a moisturizer) Get a primer that works best for you, that will not make your skin oily. This way you can have that fresh all day look.

Concealer - Use your concealer as a camouflage for under-eye dark circles, blemishes, or acne. Apply lightly
Foundation - Start off with shaking your bottle, this way the foundation is mixed well and ready to be applied. Pour just a small amount onto the back of your hand using your middle finger, make-up sponge, or foundation brush. Apply to the center of your face, cheeks, and T-Zone ( across forehead and down nose). It's important to watch out for how much you are applying and how you are blending, in order to create that flawless look. Lines to be cautious of are your hairline and jawline. Also pay close attention to how your blending around your nose and mouth.
Pressed Powder - Your pressed powder is used as just that...pressed powder. These are good to have when away from home when in need of any touch ups. Be sure to apply this immediately after you have applied your foundation.
Step 4: Eyeshadow; If this is your first time with applying your eyeshadow DO NOT worry about doing all the extra steps that come with it. Eyeshadow can be used in 3 different steps. Lid, Crease, and Highlight. Now a days there are eyeshadow applications that you can get at your local drugstore that have every step written down in order for you to create a look. The dark shade is used to line your upper eyelid, in a very thin line along the upper lashes. The medium shade is for your crease, and the ligther shade is for the area that is under your eyebrow. However, do not get discouraged if you want to use a shadow as an all over shadow you can do that as well. If this is your first time with applying make-up, I suggest doing just an all over eyeshadow and gradually teach yourself how to do different techniques as you gradually become familiar with the product.
DIRECTIONS
Lid, Crease, and Highlight - The easiest way to apply all of these and merge them together is start from light to dark. Use your eyeshadow brush to apply your lid, crease, and highlight. BE GENTLE. Their are several different eyeshadow brushes, but if you are a beginner then pick one eyeshadow brush that you are comfortable with and gradually graduate to the different brushes.
*5 Easy Tips* -
#1. A secret to making those beautiful eyes pop, is to choose a eyeshadow that matches the color of your eyes. OR! be different, try a contrasting deep dramatic color on a brown, blue, green, or hazel eye.
#2. Keep your day look different from your night look. If you work in a professional setting such as myself, remember to keep it natural during the day and dramatic for the night. If you want to apply shadow on your brow bone for a day look remember to use it as your highlighter or use a natural tone.
#3. Shimmer and Smokey Eye's are fun, however one can cause wrinkles, as well as create a heavy lid and line. While the other can just simply make you look like a clown. If you want to create a shimmer look use a nude lid, and apply your shimmer to the brow line. Color of your choice! With your smokey eye, just don't over do it, and remember your smokey eye can be used with many different colors from pinks to purples to golds. Keep the color applied to your lid and lower lash line DO NOT apply the color above your crease.
#4. Pairing your shadow with your lip color. A well known beauty rule is "Thou Shalt Not Play Up The Lips AND The Eyes" Unless your a super model, try to keep one darker then the other. If your going for a dramatic lip keep your eyes light.
#5. If you want your eyes to look brighter, apply a dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of your eye near your tear duct.
Step 5: Eyeliner; Eyeliner is a good secret to enhancing your eye. Making your eyes POP! Black eyeliner is usually the most common color that is used to pull looks together, or a color that is close to black. You can either use an eyeliner brush or your typical eyeliner pencil.
DIRECTIONS: When applying your eyeliner start from the outside corner of the eye, create a slant, moving in short slow strokes towards the inner corner of your eye making sure that your line is as close to your upper lashes as possible, you can also line the lower lid that is below your lashes, be sure to line only half way thru unless you are wanting to create a darker eye look then you can line the entire lower line. Also remember that eyeliner is exactly what it's called..eyeliner NOT lid liner. Your eyeliner should be applied with a nice thin line, to give your eye's that extra accent it needs to stand out.
Step 6: Mascara; ALL mascara works differently. Most people may not be aware of that, but it does. Each mascara comes with a different trick. Regardless if you like long eyelashes, thick eyelashes, etc. You can find a mascara that works differently for you.
DIRECTIONS: With Mascara it's important that you DO NOT clump it on. Use your wand wisely, treat your eyelashes nicely but carefully in order to prevent a mess around your eyes you want to apply 2 thin coats. Brown mascara is known to work best for a fair natural look, but both brown or black work well for darker looks. I would not suggest wearing a pink or blue mascara within the work place, I would only suggest those colors for fun. Also, now a days, fake lashes are another accessory that is added to a make-up routine.
Step 7: Lips; Your lip color will also make a difference in how your canvas looks when complete. Be sure to choose a lip color that fits your skin tone and fits your everyday look, also try mixing colors to get that perfect look that's right for you. You can start off with a pretty lip gloss, or lipstick. Either way be sure to get something that is long lasting.
DIRECTIONS: I find it easier to apply my lip application with my finger, wand, or just straight from the tube more so then with a lip brush b/c brushes can be a bit too thick or too hard. You can also apply a lip liner, but apply this after applying your lip application not before in order to prevent a dark circle of lip liner once your lip application has worn off, remember that your lip liner should match the same color as your lip application if not close to it. Also, it is important to choose a good chap stick for your lips in order to prevent dry chapped lips. That's definitely not a good look.
Step 8: Blush; Blush is exactly what it's called. Blush. A secret essential to your look. Do not over do it!! It does NOT need to be blended if so then you have applied too much.
DIRECTIONS: With your blush all you need to do is apply it softly on the bones of your cheeks with a cheek brush that suits you. An easy way to make sure your applying it correctly is to smile so that the apples or pillows of your cheek bones are visible giving you an easy on application where all you need to do is dab it on. You can choose anything from a pink blush, to a nude blush. In order to create that fresh look for your canvas.
I hope these steps will help! Stay tuned for more..
